| A. | Opening | ||
| 1. | Call to order | ||
| The meeting was called to order at 5:12 PM. by President Middlemiss. | |||
| 2. | Attendance | ||
| Board members present: Ash, Blazek, Cole, Greene, Middlemiss, Webster | |||
| Board members absent: Longo, Manos | |||
| Visitors: William Woodworth | |||
| 4. | Treasurer's report | ||
| Treasurer Blazek provided an income and expenses report for the previous two months. The Boosters presently have about $23,000 of available funds. It was mentioned that this barely covers the cost of one higher-power translator desired. | |||
| 5. | Correspondence | ||
| President Middlemiss reported having received a letter from the person who heads the National Translator Association (NTA) offering to prepare FCC submissions for a flat fee of $800 per. It was stated that this is much better than the $5000 cost the last time the TVB made a submission to the FCC. | |||
| President Middlemiss also reported an item in the NTA newsletter that stated that the next FCC channel auction may involve UHF channels 54, 55, and 59. He is of the opinion that this will not happen before 2006 at the earliest due to some of the channels being currently used as temporary assignments for digital TV transmissions and the slow pace of TV broadcasters' conversion to digital TV. | |||
| B. | Committee reports | ||
| 1. | Standing committees | ||
| b. | Operations | ||
| There has been no progress on the KMZT-upgrade antenna installation for the last two or three months. One mast has been completed. There has been discussions with the China Lake SeaBees regarding assistance with the remainder of the installation, but nothing definitive has been resolved. | |||
| The KMZT signal has faded in recent days/weeks due to suspected effects of temperature-related refraction of the received signal. It is hoped that the new antenna will improve signal reception significantly as visitor Woodworth (almost) assures it will. | |||
| D. | New business | ||
| 1. | Former member Amster submitted his resignation from the board in September. | ||
| 2. | The annual solicitation letter is in preparation and will be mailed in late October. | ||
| 3. | The TVB will have a booth at the Maturango Junction Days event October 19. | ||
| F. | Closure | ||
| 1. | Next meeting: 5:00 PM, November 4, 2002, Kern County Library, Ridgecrest | ||
| 2. | Adjournment: 5:55 PM |
