The times they are a-changin'. On January 1st, KCET will discontinue carrying PBS programming, citing financial and programming disputes which could not be resolved as it's major reasons, and will instead be carrying independent non-commercial programming. KOCE will replace KCET as Los Angeles' primary PBS affiliate. We will continue to translate KCET and KLCS while we investigate receiving KOCE at our Soledad Mountain site in order to piggyback it's signal on our KCET microwave link. Your donations are essential to ensuring we can purchase the equipment we need to add KOCE to our channel lineup.
We are now translating the City of Ridgecrest's low power digital television channel 41. If you aren't receiving it, you will need to rescan for digital channels on your digital television set.
We receive a lot of questions regarding problems receiving our digital television signals. There are many causes of these problems, but their solutions all boil down to ensuring you get enough signal to your television. The cable bringing the signals from your antenna to your television causes signal loss, especially for longer runs of cable. Newer RG-6 cable has lower loss than older RG-59. Splitters also cause signal loss, so eliminating unnecessary splitters will improve your signal. We are now broadcasting on lower television channels, so if you have an older "translator cut" UHF antenna and are having problems receiving only some of our channels, replacing it with a four-bay UHF bowtie antenna would give better reception across all our channels. Some older analog tv pre-amplifiers can introduce enough noise to cause problems. Our digital translators transmit more power than our older analog translators did, so try removing it first. If you must use a pre-amplifier, a low-noise pre-amplifier such as the Channel Master 7777 is a better choice.
